Compounding the climate challenges, Covid-19 has introduced multiple, intersecting systemic shocks, and one of its casualties has been the capacity to adapt and respond to escalating climate risks. Investment in climate adaptation fell in 2020, even as millions of people were affected.
In the short term it is important to make sure measures to respond to COVID-19-created problems also contain adaptation and mitigation measures. But, in the long run, how do we climate proof our cities, energy sectors and water systems?
