Enlit Africa, formerly African Utility Week & POWERGEN Africa, is the platform for clear, concise and incisive content & connection, through thought leadership that looks to the future and embraces all players in the industry. Our 2022 event will explore the theme "Collaboration to fast forward Africa’s Energy Transition".
2022 Event Theme
Collaboration to fast forward Africa’s Energy Transition
Collaboration is a key enabler of the effort that is driving the energy transition; collaboration between public sector and private sector, between utilities, regulators and government. Every every single person and organisation within the energy ecosystem - from generation to distribution, from manufacturer to financier to end user - has a role to play in ensuring the energy system of tomorrow is sustainable, affordable and achievable.
The combined efforts of the international community and the South African government to bring a deal of $8.5 billion to the table to support South Africa's energy transition is an example of such collaboration. During the event, we will explore how such collaboration across the continent can be utilised to mobilise investment and scale up the energy transition.
2022 Programme Focus

Generation
The generation landscape is changing and the role of traditional and new generation types have never been as important as they are now.
The world is already experiencing increasing prices and shortages as the energy transition gains momentum, we will examine the role of both traditional and alternative generation in Africa, understanding the incremental steps toward a clean energy transition that is also reliable and secure.

The new energy landscape
These sessions provide a dynamic meeting place for solution providers, consultants, renewable energy producers and energy leaders to develop alternative solutions and accelerate the sustainable electrification and energy transition of Africa.
Particular attention will be paid to the priorities of the Commercial & Industrial sector around security and stability of power supply, while also addressing the utility role in this new landscape.
The content focus will include the integration of renewable energy into the grid, energy storage and the role of minigrids across Africa.

Smart energy, transmission, distribution
This track will showcase the opportunities of the transmission and distribution sector, encompassing the day-to-day operation of these utilities, digging deeper into the real issues keeping sector professionals awake at night.
The content focus will include, digitalisation of the utility distribution sector, metering, IOT, storage and the convergence of IT/OT; cross border trade and energy transmission, data and data analytics and the fundamentals of revenue management, protection and recovery.

Strategic management, finance and investment
Decision makers of the energy sector come together with financiers and investors to unpack today’s energy complexities and facilitate well considered decision making.
The content focus will include discussions on the impact of COVID-19 on Africa’s investment landscape; the unbundling of Eskom; understanding the energy transition and the timelines for such; project risk mitigation and alternative financing opportunities.
What to expect in 2022
Energy Storage takes centre-stage
As the role of energy storage comes more to the fore, Enlit Africa will have a strong focus on storage across the various elements of the energy value chain, highlighting how it can be utilised to enhance the value and length of self-generation.
Feedback on the steps to take to install, size, price and finance storage will underpin a number of the discussions.
Smarter Mobility Africa is in the building
Focusing on the electrification of motorbikes, cars, taxis, vans, trucks, and busses, Smarter Mobility Africa Fleet Summit explores the challenges and opportunities around transitioning business and government fleets; charging infrastructure, financing, carbon emission reduction, cost savings, and the integration of electric vehicles with the grid- and off-grid technologies.
3 days of relevant content for large industry
Large industries are taking power generation into their own hands.
Mines in particular need secure, reliable supply to ensure a safe working environment and our 2022 programme will focus on how mines are utilising ‘disruptive’ technologies to secure their energy supply.
A Green Hub & GreenPitch Challenge
In collaboration with WESGRO, GreenCape and Atlantis SEZ, and as a Provincial Government initiative between local entities positioning the Western Cape as an investible green economy, we're bringing a pavilion dedicated to showcasing Green SMMEs who are active in the power, energy and smart mobility space. Including 12 micro pods on the pavilion and a Green Hub jam-packed with content over the 3 days. Attendees can learn, engage and network with the upcoming Green Economy leaders.
As part of the GreenCape initiative to promote “green economy”, the two outstanding winners of the GreenCape GreenPitch Challenge will be showcased within the Green Hub on the Enlit Africa exhibition floor.
Hear from your industry thought-leaders
Industry experts continue to support Enlit Africa due to our programme's exciting and inclusive range of content unlike any other energy event.
Speakers from the whole spectrum of the sector will put Africa's energy transition into context, outline the challenges and opportunities it presents, and spotlight the innovative projects and technological solutions that will shape the way we generate, consume and trade energy.
